Ubuntu 7.04 Intel PRO/Wireless Disabled?

I have installed the Ubuntu Server, and then the desktop.

The wireless card does not activate [no green light] on my Dell Inspiron 6400.

dmseg | grep 3945 shows the card as present BUT /etc/newtorks/interfaces shows nothing about the card.

Threads I have investigated mention something about a kill switch. Being a noob I don't really understand.

Note: the wireless IS enabled from setup and the FN+F2 key can get the bluetooth on, but not the wireless card.

What is the problem?

sounds like you may need to install the firmware for the 3945 equipment...

Is there a test/check that can be performed to verify the firmware is needed?

If needed how does one install the firmware?

(note: I have a CD that comes with the card, but unfortunately -- its a windows installer
