Ubuntu 14.04 support ends WHEN?

Amongst other distros, I am running Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS.

Up until today I was under the impression that Ubuntu 14.04 was supported until 2019.

Not necessarily so, if you care to look at the End of Life dates here and read the small print:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

For 14.04.1, 2019 is correct, but not for 14.04.2 and 14.04.3 (August 2016) thanks to Hardware Enablement (HWE):

http://askubuntu.com/questions/24891...enablement-hwe

It is probably nothing to get too excited about, but you will notice that the parallel Linux Mint editions are not affected.
ALL are supported until 2019:

http://www.linuxmint.com/oldreleases.php

In any event, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS arrives on April 21st 2016 and will be supported for 5 years:

http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2015/10/u...e-xenial-xerus

The following editions will be available:

Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu GNOME, Lubuntu, Kubuntu and Ubuntu Kylin.
……………………………………………………………………………………...

What edition of Ubuntu/Mint etc am I running?

Code:
lsb_release -a
32 or 64 bit?

Code:
   uname -a
Hardware information:

Code:
sudo apt-get install inxi
Code:
inxi -Fx

While I still run my own spin of 14.04 LTS sometimes, my daily driver is now MX-15 as it has all the tools I need...

NGIB,

It's all down to personal preference.

I use Ubuntu 14.04 MATE for my main desktop and MX-15 for my netbook. I like both.

It is interesting to note that Ubuntu MATE is by far the most popular of the various Ubuntu desktop editions.
