Ubuntu 13.10 drops WiFi connection?

Fairly new to Linux and new to Ubuntu. I purchased a cheap new computer to try out some Linux distributions (already had a text only Linpus Linux installed on it). I installed Ubuntu 13.10 (twice) and it kept dropping my WiFi connection. I have used this connection for years with my Mac, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 computers. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 and the connection and computer appears to work perfectly. IS THIS A BUG IN 13.10 ???
I re-installed 13.10 next to 12.04 and am not having any disconnect problems. I believe I did something wrong on my previous 2 installs but do not know what I did wrong. I will leave this post in place for now in case the problem returns.
