Ubuntu 10.04 - mainboard MSI H61M-P23-B3 - LAN card not detected
Installation of ubuntu 10.04 on new PC with motherboard MSI H61M-P23-B3 was ok. However, the on-board LAN card could not be detected/recognized. USB Wi-Fi adapter could be used.
But I need to get this PC running on wired LAN, as the intended location of the PC in the office is not suited for Wi-Fi LAN access.
I read another post in another forum that ubuntu 11.04 could solve the problem.
But this office has all its PCs on ubuntu 10.04 LTS. And it's not practical nor desirable to have one PC on another version.
Can anyone suggest how I can solve the LAN card detection problem?

SgC.9711,
I have the same motherboard in a new system I purchased, and also have issues getting network running. (on Slackware 13.37)
I read above you have two NICs: one wired and one wireless.
Is the Atheros AR8151 your wired NIC (?), This is what my Mainboard User's Guide says it's supposed to be, but it is ID'd by lspci -nn on my system as an: Atheros [1969:1083] (rev c0)
(I think this is at the basic root of my issues.)
Does that compare with your on-board NIC (using lspci)?
thanks

I got mine working now,
I had to get a clean copy of the original atl1e_main.c (and perhaps the other files too) a link for which came at the bottom of m0gwai's post : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1677122
I think it's the only link for the source that wasn't broken!
the first attempt to patch the existing driver files failed badly.
I am much obliged to any and all who even considered my questions and issue.

I'm glad that you have solved the problem. My mainboard has only one network card (wired). For wi-fi, I used a USB adaptor.
Best regards,
