Turn on numlock during boot up. (Kubuntu 20.10)

Allo all,
I use Kubuntu 20.10
I run it on 2 PCs. 1 PC runs Kubuntu 18.04. The hardware is different in each case.

Some sites recommend doing
sudo apt-get install numlockx
and reboot PC

That doesn’t do anything.

Some sites recommend
Start -> Applications -> Settings -> System Settings
On the left side, click on Input Devices -> Keyboard -> Hardware -> Numlock on Plasma Startup -> Turn On

but that turns on the Numlock only when you log in.

I saw a few websites about it, some are about Ubuntu, some are about Linux Mint and Debian.
They talk about files that don’t exist on Kubuntu 20.10.

Some sites recommend turning it on in the BIOS. It’s already on in the BIOS.
When I turn on the PC, the Numlock turns on and when Kubuntu is starting up, it turns it off.

How is it set in /etc/default/numlockx? Have you tried setting it to on there?

It was set on auto.
I changed it to on and I rebooted. It still doesn’t work.
When I log into a session, then it turns on.

In
On the left side, click on Input Devices -> Keyboard -> Hardware -> Numlock on Plasma Startup
Leave unchanged is selected.

Is there a distro where this feature works?

In my experience, this is a setting that commonly exists in the BIOS/EFI.

Too bad some login managers and desktop environments override it ...

I don't know. I've never heard of LightDM.
Kubuntu 20.10 comes with KDE Plasma 5.19.5

The folder
/usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/
has files
40-kde-plasma-kf5.conf
and
90-nvidia.conf

Alright, you don't have to do it this way, although editing 40-kde-plasma-kf5.conf may work. I do not use bloated desktops myself, net search finds official KDE PLASMA documentation ... and the page for autostart has been removed, dead link. The next best thing I found is this writeup. You could use one of these methods.

You don't have to edit anything under /usr/share/lightdm.conf.d (any changes there will be overwritten next time LightDM is updated anyway). Just put your configuration bit as a .conf file under /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/

It says:
"Need to autostart programs on KDE Plasma 5 when you log in?"

I don't want to turn on the Numlock when I log in. That's something that native KDE already supports.
I want the Numlock to be always on. As Kubuntu is booting up, it turns off the Numlock.

Some answers ..., to do what you want the first step would be to figure out what turns it off.

In folder
/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/

I created a file called
jizz.conf
and inside that text file, I added a single line
numlock=on

and rebooted the PC.
Numlock stays off.

According to Ubuntu Wiki numlock is not a valid entry, you should use session-wrapper for custom commands.
