Screen Resolutions set to OFF Ubuntu 8.10

Unfortunately, I was too curious about the OFF option in the screen resolution menu, and what a surprise, it is off and I can't do anything. I can reboot and see the login screen, but after I enter my username and password, it goes black. I can hear it logs in.

I searched the net for the same problem but couldn't find any good answer.
What can I do? I'm totally desperate and have no idea what to do.

Thanks a lot in advance!!

Here is a (hopefully) simple fix.
Boot to recovery mode by choosing recovery mode in the grub menu. Then once in recovery mode, choose xfix fix video, then reboot and see if it is fixed.
Just out of curiosity, how exactly did you do this? When I go to: system > preferences > display, the off option is greyed out and can't find a way to enable it.
I am using Ubuntu 9.04 though, so perhaps this has changed with 9.04.

If you don't see the grub menu when you boot the computer, hit the Esc key as the computer boots up and you should see the grub menu.

What video card do you have? And have you enabled any restricted drivers for it?

And welcome to the LQ forums.
