screen resize problem

Hi,
I've been using Ubuntu for about a year now and I love it.
Currently running Ubuntu 10.10
Been learning stuff on my own but this issue is beyond me right now.
I have 2 monitors a 25" and a 19". I had to move my tower from the larger monitor to the smaller one and now I only get about 3/4 of a page, the bottom part is just black. I can still get to docky and use it, but the rest of any window I have open is cut off.
I had this issue before and reinstalling Ubuntu fixed it, but I would rather not re-image at this time.

The monitor's specs are: IC Power CM2019 19" LCD, 500:1 Contrast Ratio, 250cd brightness, 1280 x 1024 resolution.

My monitor's preferences shows the specified resolution.
I've searched for similar issues in forums but found
nothing similar to this particular problem.
Not sure whether I need to edit anything, I do not have a
"xorg.conf" file and I didn't think I needed to create one as suggested in post a read. Came across this too.

First post here, any help would be appreciated.

You should not need to make an xorg.conf file, Ubunutu 10.10 will use one if it exists, but it does not need one.

(If you have not already) You can try to boot into the command line so X is not running, and run

X -configure

I have seen other posts where people could not set their monitor options the way they like, and this re-detected their monitors properly.
