Lightbulb reinstalling problem.....


i am having ubuntu 8.04. i have installed windows 7 but i am not able to boot into ubuntu 8.04. i have new version of ubuntu 9.10 in CD. does reinstalling the new ubuntu will overwrite my all previous data which i had in older version of ubuntu??? pls help

Depends how you're going to install Ubuntu 9.10 .
On a separate partition not used by neither windows or Ubuntu 8.04.
And if you are going to install it on the partition now used by UBUNTU 8.04 did you make a separate for /home
If so do not format /home during the install of UBUNTU 9.10
But to be sure always make a backup first
