Reinstall removed kernel

In my effort to clean up my bootloader yesterday somehow I managed to remove every kernel version I had installed.

I am sure I can boot from an install CD and mount the root partition to get my data and then reinstall, but I would really like to try recovering this system - any suggestions on how to get a kernel back on the machine? Is it as simple as a umount of the cd, and mount of the disk with the missing kernel followed by an apt-get to give me the latest version?

Suggestions?

Now are you sure you removed your kernels from your computer or maybe they are not shown on your bootloader anymore because you did what you've did with your bootloader ?

Now when you start your computer your bootloader loads and there are no kernels to choose from there or anyway what have you done precisely so you thought you have removed you kernels ?

I am certain that they were removed as I was working in the Synaptic Package Manager at the time, and it updates Grub for me.

The real question is how can I recover from this state?

For anyone that may be effected by this in the future.

I was able to recover by booting of the CD, doing a number fo commands to mount my key volumes and then run a sudo apt-get install to get the kernel again.

Google was my friend.
