Recovery - Desperate

All,

I know most sites do not like you posting from other sites/threads, but trying desperately to recover. Wrote up my issues at:

"linux.org/threads/laptop-recovery.5829"

and

"linux.org/threads/new-dt-problems.5863"

Was making headway, when I sent in latest reply and got message that I'm only allowed 8 posts and have exceeded by allotment.

The resonse I was posting was:

***********************************************
Rescue mode is asking for me to load file:

iwlwifi-100-6.ucode

from flash.

However searching found this message:

http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-w.../msg88957.html

and therefore only downloadable version at:

http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/...i/?n=Downloads

is:

iwlwifi-100-5.ucode

How do I resolve this? Will this older version do?

Cheers!
OMR
***********************************************

Hope someone here has answers for me so I can work this all out.

Cheers!

OMR

I agree with poster arochester over on linux.org: backup, reinstall, restore from backup. You'll be back up and running in 30 minutes if all goes well.

You might also use this as an opportunity to upgrade to the new 14.04 release.

I also agree. Boot a live CD, backup your data, re-install because it looks too messed up to easily fix and you said you need it up ASAP.

Number of files

All,

Thanks for input but facing the following:

No external drive available and over 5 million files involved. Copy to new desktop would cause over 3 million dupes. Samba and NFS not working, so can not copy that way either.

Have never found a successful dupe elimination program to handle that many files nor a successful disaster recover program that works. Have attempted about 20 and nothing worked, not clonezilla, not mondo, nothing I tried even installed right, but not even worth discussing since laptop crashed.

Recovery is the only option since I can not loose any data.

Still stuck looking for file: iwlwifi-100-6.ucode.

Once I get these working right going to GIT to sync and track all files, but not sure how I will manage existing dup files.

Thanks!

OMR
