Okay, going through those steps I got "make-install.sh" as no such file or directory in '/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod' . I tried "make_install.sh" aswell, then did 'dir' and the only thing there even close is "make.sh" which gave a different error...

"kernel includes at /usr/src/linux/include not found or incomplete
file: /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h
"

I figured whistling and moving on like it never happened wasn't really a viable solution.

So as always, any help would be greatly appreciated.

the note and the bottom of those steps says that it is necessary to install both packages "linux-headers" (you need the headers for your kernel version; you can find out your hernel version by opening a console and typing uname -r) and "gcc" using synaptic

after that, please read the procedure carefully: you should get no error when executing "make.sh" in /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod... then changing to /lib/modules/fglrx and executing "make_install.sh"... and so on

please let me know if you have any problem

sudo apt-get install build-essential to download the compiler, but it sounds like you already have that since you're getting the header error.

Follow Daynras' instructions and search for linux-headers in Synaptic and download the right ones. I installed the ATI driver recently, myself, so let us know how it goes.

lol, oh *dear*
Sorry about that guys, you can tell I've been doing this for a few days straight now.
You'd think I would have got the hang of it by now.

But yeah, I'm installing those packages now (the reason I hadn't is because I thought they were something else that I had installed during another tutorial so I skipped that step)
I wrote the steps down on paper so that I wouldn't have to switch in and out of the console while I was doing it, but clearly missed a step or two

I'll try to stop asking stupid questions now.

I'll let you know what happens

Well, I did that, and it *seemed* to work fine, but nothing seems to have changed...
I still get the kernel module error in the log file and all the screensavers still jerk like crazy...

Based on observations from current trends, I'd say I did something wrong, but I'm not sure what...

It no longer says Mesa
It says "Radeon 9800 Generic" or something to that effect.
(In WinXP atm so I can't check for the exact output)
