If this is the wrong forum, please suggest where I can go.
I am running Kubuntu 6.06.
I have two hp USb printers (HP5740 & HP3940).
no problem connecting and printing on either one until...
in the middle of multi page printing the computer stopped.
"system settings > printer" no longer recognizes either printer. I was able to re-istall a printer in "administrator mode" where it printed the test page ok
I looked at the documentation but did not find what i was lookng for.
There are a couple of problems with permissions in Dapper.
You need to add user cupsys to group shadow and then make your printer options settings using the cup web gui: http://localhost:631
The printer admin control does not save settings properly.
Thanks
I haven't the faintest idea of how to follow your suggestions. I am a real newbie at this sort of thing. I looked at the URL you listed and will try to do somthing with it, but for now, I just pass my printing chore to my backup computer and let that do the printing.
Will Ubuntu have a fix for the problem before the next version?
