power saving applications

hello everybody,

i'm using ubuntu 11.10 and i want some application that will turn off my video card and hard disk when i'm not using computer.
i want to leave my computer turned on during the night so i could listen to music and maybe download some torrent, but video card fan is irritating me.

so, is there some application that would manage this devices?

can't you get there using the power management settings of Ubuntu? Have it turn off video after, say, 15 minutes?
Turning off your hard disk, however, will not work when you run unattended downloads. How should it?

You purchased the wrong video card. I'd never pick one that has or needs an extra fan. :-)
