Photo on Desktop

Hi

I'm a newbie running Linux Mint, this Q was posted at the Mint Linux forum and one of the guys said I should try posting my Q here as it has a larger community base.

My question is this - is there a way to change the Desktop background?

I have a file with hundreds of photos in it which I want to display on the Desktop as a slide show, with the photos changing randomly every minute or so. I have looked at the Change Desktop Background options, but it doesn't have what I want it to do....

From what I understand, this is quite easy to do under KDE, unfortunately, I am using the Gnome GUI..

Thanks and Merry Xmas to you all

I would think it could be done with a bash script as a cron job but that's a bit beyond all but the most adventurous newbie. There is however a screensaver "F-Spot Photos" that cycles through photos tagged in the F-Spot application as "Favorite". Not exactly what you want but might fill the need for you without total geek conversion. That screensaver is part of Ubuntu and I'd think it's also part of the Mint release.
