Permission Editing Grub

I cannot edit grub's menu.lst I do not have permissions. I don't understand because ubuntu never asked me to setup a root account. How can I get access to edit grub's menu.lst?

something went wrong when you installed ubuntu.........every distro I've ever used Always set up a /root account............

No.
Ubuntu doesn't have a root account.
To edit your Grub config, type

Code:

sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

(Gnome) or

Code:

sudo kwrite /boot/grub/menu.lst

(KDE).

Isn't the terminal icon on the top bar a root terminal ???. Should ask for the password then, and obviate the requirement for sudo.

The root terminal is labeled as such, and it'll still ask for your sudo password, which the password of the first user created during the installation.
