I haven't tried but a quick google found this.
A couple of pages along, example-preseed.txt is referenced. Have a look at the bit headed "Partitioning".

Thanks but I had already looked at this page. The examples I found (managed to find with my Google foo) on the Internet doesn't have the setup I want to create: a /dev/sda1 as boot and /dev/sdb2 as a LVM partition.
I have decided to actually create the swap partition in the preceed_late section. I would like to know what partition utilities are available during the installation process? I have tried sfdisk, it doesn't seem to be available during the installation.
