No Video?

Hi,
I have searched for this topic but it doesn't seem to be a problem alot of people have had.

I installed MPlayer, vlc and loads of codecs - but everytime I play any type of media I have no video - just sound.

I get either a black or blue window where the video should be.

Is there a way to debug this or is it more likely to be the onboard gphx not upto the job?

thanks

ice.

My guess without seeing any config files is your choice for video output. I would selcet video output type of xv. On the command line for mplayer one can use -vo xv to select that one for the video output driver. Never used vlc but guess it has the same.

i tried using the mplayer -vo xv <filename> but the video still does not play. I can hear the audio ok and the video window scales to size - but alas no joy with a picture.
What config files would I need to look at to see what is going on?

Thanks

Well - I went into the VLC preference settings and set that to use the X11 output - and hey presto it worked....
Kudos for the help - would like to know what it is that I have done by choosing this setting???

Thanks

ice.

Mplayer works flawlessly as a standalone ap and frequently as a firefox plugin. I've found that videos that won't display in firefox will work if downloaded first. My mplayer configuration has been at XV. If I change it to X11 will mplayer no longer work as a standalone ap?
