no UI after dist-upgade -f

Hey,

I recently upgraded to 5.10 (Breeze) and it was running fine. I don't remember why I did this (probably to install some program or because I read it in some post) but I called
Quote:
apt-get dist-upgrade -f
and it then asked me to restart. Once the system booted back up, I only got the command login. I tied running startx, but this comes up (same for gdm and kdm)
Code:
sudo: startx: command not found
.
Please let me know if there is some diagnostic or troubleshooting steps I should follow in order to get this fixed.

Thanks!

Unhappy

I just ran
Quote:
apt-get upgrade
and there seems to be a lot of dkpg errors. The summary at the end specifies errors encountered while processing postfix, mailx, mutt, and lsb-core.
I have no clue what to do.

I had the same problem. Seems to load okay and then gets to starting Gnome/KDE and... nothing...

startx, kdm, gdm don't work.

Would love if anyone has a suggestion so I can save some of my files rather than having to wipe my drive and start over.

Where can I type your command from, though, if I can only get to a text login and can't get in to a ui/desktop?

Well, log in normally with your username and password in the command prompt and then just run the command.
If you don't see a way to log on, what text comes up when you are stuck?
