NFS and printing server

Hi i have 2 pc's in a lan, both are running Kubuntu 5.04, on the first computer i need to share some files and a printer, so i thought "NFS", but it seems that the service isnt running and i dont know how to start it, i have read several nfs tutorials and i know how to configure /etc/exports, but i sont have one , and as i have already said it seems that the service isnt running, in fact it doesnt seem to be installed, so it wont work. That's the most important thing, the other problem its with the printer, can anyone help me configure it in order to make it accesible from the other kubuntu box ? it's a Hp 820 cxi parallel preinter. I cant acces to the internet directly through my linux pc's so if i have to download any packages i will have to do it and then pass them to the Kubuntu pcs. thanks a lot

install the packages nfs-kernel-server and nfs-common. Then

/etc/init.d/nfs restart

As for sharing the printer...to be quite honest, I use Samba. I find it is much easier to share a printer with Samba than it is with cups directly, even if printing among many different *nix boxes.

Thanks a lot. I did it, i installed all the packages and configured the /etc/exports file, but when i updated the exports database with exportfs -r i got the following message:

192.168.0.5:/home/abajo: permission denied
exportfs: could not open /var/lib/nfs/etab for locking
exportfs: can't lock /var/lib/nfs/etab for writing
exportfs: could not open /var/lib/nfs/xtab for locking
exportfs: can't lock /var/lib/nfs/xtab for writing

the folder i want to share is /home/abajo with my other machine which ip is 192.168.0.5. so my /etc/exports looks pretty much like this:

/home/abajo 192.168.0.5(rw)

what should i do ?

Another thing, on the client machine, i have to install both, nfs-kernel-server and nfs-common?. After that, i just mount the nfs shared folders ?

Thanks

NFS common should be good enough on the client. Did you set up your hosts.allow and hosts.deny files? There is a good doc on how to do this on the nfs website.
