New windows covered by panel and Launcher
The computer is running Ubuntu Xenial 16.04 with the Unity desktop and regularly updated. A while back one of the updates modified something affecting the desktop.
Now every time an application is started, its window's top left corner is at the screen's top left corner so the window is partially covered by the panel and Launcher.
I've found a way to autohide the Launcher, but the title bar is hidden and Alt-CursorDrag is needed to move the window to a usable position.
How do I get new window placement to respect the panel and Launcher?
