My problems with updating to 9.10

Here are some of the problems I encountered while updating to Ubuntu 9.10. No 1. The add/remove utility disappeared No 2 Evolution mail would not work. I eventually uninstalled it. I'm now using Thunderbird without any hint of a problem. No. 3 Rhythmbox would load then spontaneously disappear after 10 seconds to morph to a faint icon top right toolbar. Click on the icon and Rhythmbox would load to full screen to repeat its minimising to the icon after 10 seconds. No.4 Any items selected under Places would disappear after 10 seconds for example selecting Computer from the drop down menu the icons would appear as they should then disappear after 10 seconds. At 70yrs my reflexes are shall we say wanting. This happened whether Rhythmbox was loaded or not. I uninstalled Rhythmbox and presto I no longer have the 10 second cut off problem with any selection - my reflexes are pleased !! The hassles with cd's and dvd's are dealt with in a previous posting. I'm pleased the update has the current Firefox version as default. Regards from Down Under.

Wait on Updates

This time around, I broke my own rules in waiting at least one month before updating Ubuntu.

8.04 LTS was released in April 2008; I installed it soon after that, because it absolutely would not install correctly on a Thinkpad T61p; and then I got a good install with the 8.04 LTS July refresh.

Did you try re-installing Evolution? And what happened if you did?

Also, it's a pain, but consider entering bug reports on Launchpad https://launchpad.net/ubuntu

Thankyou for reply

I'm happy with Thunderbird - no hassles. I don't intend to re-install Evolution - I'm no masochist !! As for making a bug report intend to do so after waiting a few days to see what the response is to my report in this forum. I have sound back which disappeared after the upgrade to 9.10 I have posted my sound problem and my solution, previously. Getting cd's & dvd's to play is "fun" I just can't wait until I get into graphics and downloading pics from my camera !! Thankyou from Down Under
