My notebook (somtimes) suspends right after wakeup

Hi,

my HP/Compaq nc4400 has an annoying problem regarding Powersave.

When waking up from suspend to RAM the notebook immediately suspends again after a few seconds. When I switch it on again it works.

The effect only occurs (sometimes) when the notebook was in suspend mode for a longer time.
It looks to me as if the system thinks that the timeout for suspend has occured and so it suspends again.

Two very minor problems:
1) In GKrellm the frequency display always shows full speed (varying 1801 and 1832 MHz). The KPowersave applet shows frequencys from 1000 MHz to 1833 MHz.
Speedstep is active and working on that machine.

2) The indicator LED for wireless isn't working. it's allways off. The wireless button works and wireless itself also works fine.

If anyone has any solution or hint, please let me know.

Thanks, Paul Sommer

Ah yes. I use Ubuntu 8.04

From my personal experience I've found that the suspend option doesn't always work as expected in most Linux distros. Nor hibernate, for that matter. Avoid if you can - after all, Ubuntu boots really quickly, so why not do a shutdown? And if you're leaving the PC for a shorter period, just lock your screen.

Yes, Ubuntu starts quite fast, but I like to find my workspace untouched after shutting down my machine. So most of the time I simply suspend it and shut it down next to never.

Anyway, my problem seems to be solved after I disabled autosuspend. Had no problems since then.

There is still the little problem with the non functioning wireless indicator led. This can be a bit confusing.
