Multiple Sound Cards

I was wondering how to switch back and forth from my onboard sound, which is the default "working" sound card, and my SB Live! which is detected. Just not sure where i can switch which card is being used for sound output.

If you use ALSA, you could most easily try a ~/.asoundrc-file to tell what sound card (hw:0 or hw:1) is the default sound card.
If you are using ALSA, you should be able to se which cards you have in /proc/asound/devices and in other files/directories there.
