Mount Sony ARW files

I have a Sony camera with a bunch of ARW files on it sdcard.
When USB connect the camera then Thunar pops up with the sdcard folder name but when I click on that folder it refuses to mount the files.
Do I need some libraries to mount the camera's sdcard in Thunar ?
I have xubuntu 17.04

if I understand well, you do not need to mount, those are files, not filesystems. You can try ufraw to open them.

My intention is to copy the files from the camera to my disk ... then I will use darktable to process them.
Can I use ufraw to just copy them ?

you can copy files with thunar, just cannot open them (= cannot see the pictures). ufraw is used to edit/process them.
I think drag&drop should work.

You need to add support for the exFAT filesystem.

sudo apt-get install exfat-utils exfat-fuse
