Login to websites

I have Kubuntu Breezy 5.10 installed using a zoom 3049c serial external modem.

This distro was working fine until I issued an apt-get command and it erased all the base system.
I then did a fdisk to delete the partition and reinstalled letting the distro format the harddrive.

Upon configuring kppp I ran into the normal changes to /etc/ppp/options and sucessfully correct them.

Now when I try to open a website I get an error message "error loading website host unknown.

Added dns addresses given me by ISP. Syslog shows auto detect addresses the same as manual addresses.

Syslog show a successful login with Kppp and icon docks in panel board.

Used about 5 addresses from google.com to ping and all showed to be transmissioned and received and 0% loss.

Loaded Koppix and Ubuntu live cd's and both distro's accessing the web.
Also have Windows ME on the same modem working properly.

Please help any suggestions or needed info will be replied.

Just a stab in the dark. How tight is your security? You might loosen everything up, and see if things work. Then you could tighten security settings until you start having problems again to know when to quit. HTH

Maybe something strange happened to your new konq install? Does kubuntu have an update utility that doesn't use konq? Maybe you could try an update, or uninstall and re-install konqueror. If possible, I would try the update first, and if that fails, then the re-install. Since nothing else was mentioned, I assume there is nothing strange going on when using konq as a file manager?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Kubuntu so often my disk now has a glitch in it.

Also installed Ubuntu and I am having the same problems with that distro.

Windows ME working fine also Knoppix on a live cd. Just tried Ubuntu on a live cd and it is working fine.

Don't know what is happening?

Thanks
Ray

Problem resolved finally

After many weeks of searching I found that the /etc/resolv.conf file (that has to be made when configuring Kppp) was in the wrong directory.

Since correcting this the web is now readily available. I am now using Kubuntu Breezy to post this thread.
