Kubuntu install gripe

I have a gripe about Kubuntu's install routine...

By default it only asks for one user's info and sets that user as an admin sudo user, but also sets the root password the same... I don't like this. Additionally, it doesn't ask for any additional users, which could very much help if there is a problem with the install and/or the admin user account.

Additionally, the install has a hard time mounting reiserfs partitions and setting the mountpoints for them (for example a retained /home partition)...

Has anyone else experienced these as a problem???

You can set it so your user doesn't have administrator priviliges and add the user root with it's passowrd.
What do you mean "...the install has a hard time mounting reiserfs partitions and setting the mountpoints for them..."? Does it mount them at all? Or does it just take a long time?

What I mean is that the system had an already formatted ReiseFS /Home partition and the installation set up a /home directory on the / partition... very frustrating to fix... And I DID set iot up correctly with the manual partitioning...

As for the password, I fully appreciate the fact that I can change the root password later, but it is a huge security loophole to make it the asme as the primary user's account...

My only other gripe is getting sound working in everything...
Then again, I am used to SuSE's sound set up routines... so I have no real leg to stand on in complaining about it.

More Imortantly and However,...
with the Universal repositories added, and the necessary other "extras" put in there too... Two big thumbs up for Kubuntu... !!! Very user friendly system,... very configurable,... and very attractive.

Once I get sound working fully (in all apps), and XGL working in KDE,... (which will be like pulling teeth)... I will have a bleeding edge, sweet laptop to show people who are waiting for Vist-duh.

What are you talking about? There is no root password in a default installation. The account is disabled - you can't log in as root at all.

To JaseP

If you want more control over installation then try the kubuntu-alternate-install.iso - it is more flexible, with expert options.

I have tried even edgy-eft alternate .iso and it is reasonably OK.
