Kubuntu 20.04 - really sluggish, compared to 19.10, on my system
After upgrading to Kubuntu 20.04, from 19.10, I found that my system was slowed down noticeably by the update. Suddenly I was having serious lags when switching between windows or maximizing/minimizing windows, and sometimes other tasks. Some of the lags (short freezes, basically) were rather long, sometimes more than 20 seconds. It really was annoying.
So, I decided to do a fresh install here. I did, and the problem still seems to be an issue. Switching between windows still is often very sluggish. It's also not limited to that, even programs seem laggy now too.
I don't know what is going on but I'm considering switching to the KDE Plasma version of Mint. I suppose I could go back to 19.10, but I'd rather not. My machine is a Ryzen 7 2700X with 32GB of RAM and a 1080 Ti GPU. While not top of the line anymore, it's a long way from a slouch either.
Any ideas? Could it be the graphics driver (I'm using the 440.64 kernel)? I suspect though, that the issue is with the KDE Plasma 5.18.x release. Either way I can't tolerate this nonsense much longer... this level of sluggishness is like that of a much less powerful CPU/GPU combo.
