My on-board video chip (s-3)doesn't share the love with Linux so I need to buy an agp card. At present I can only use(thank Goodness)the generic vesa driver which leaves "no" adj. whatsoever.
Can someone give me some guidance on a new card. I'm not a gamer so I'm just looking for a rock solid everyday use card.
Did you install the driver for your S3 video in your installation? What are your system specs? What version agp card x4 or x8 and what voltage does your motherboard support?

Sig = signature. See I have all of my hardware listed in my signature and I even have the url to each vendor's site so you can see its specifications. The x850 is an old card, but it works.

The AGP is 3.0 compliant w/8x transfer mode(chipset on motherboard)
The AGP voltage is adjustable from 1.5v to 1.85v in 0.05v increments.
I installed no video drivers....I thought the Op.Sys. did that....it did on previous versions.

Got A Quick Question. My AGP slot only has 1 seperator(key) within the slot. The agp's I've been looking at they all seem to have 2 seperators. I a little confused. My micro atx motherboard is a MSI K8MM-V Series(MS-7142 v1.x) The processor is a 754 pin package & capable of 64 bit processing.
Is this your motherboard: http://www.motherboards.org/mobot/mo...8MS-7142%2529/
It does look like it only has one key in the slot. According to motherboards.org it is indeed a 8x AGP slot though. I wouldn't worry about it. My motherboard (Asus K8N) looks the same way: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1642
and I am using a nvidia geforce 6200 AGP card.
(Note: The link is a Asus K8N-E which is almost the same as my Asus K8N. I just couldn't find a big enough picture of the K8N to show).
Yes, that's the one. So, if I buy a card with 2 key slots that's an 8x AGP thats Ok.
I just realized something, thats either the old board I had, or the board I put in my youngest sisters computer.. It should be fine w/ an 8x AGP card (at least I didn't have a problem)

I've had an Nvidia FX5200 8X AGP for some time and it has searved me well. I'm not a gamer. Most of the newer cards are all PCI Express so make sure what you buy is AGP. For AGP today I might go for http://computers.pricegrabber.com/vi...duct/sv=title/

Well, it looks like for the price this card from newegg may be the best buy:$39.99:EVGA 256-A8-N341-LX GeForce 6200 256MB 64-bit DDR AGP 8X Video Card.
My system has a 400watt P.S. so I'm good to go there. Thanks to all for the heads up. Mike
