Question I/O Base Ports HELP Request

Okay, I have an old Sony Vaio laptop and I am trying to install Xubuntu on it. The CD reader can read the CD but cant boot from it. So I created a floppy with sbm.bin and rawrite and booted with it. I selected the cd rom that it displayed and got the "Disk error! 0x0C" error. After a quick read of the readme again it looks as though I need to set the I/O Ports my self.

This is above my skill level so if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it!

Hardware is currently running XP.

Sony Vaio PCG-f480
20 GB hard drive
128 MB mem
CD/DVD reader

See if you power up with the Del key down to start the BIOS. The BIOS should allow you to select the boot devices and the order they are queried. I may be wrong on the Del key but there should be a key that will work this way.
