How to use GUI to view contents of Windows disk

Hi all

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 5.10. I've been trying different distros for a few months now. I think Ubuntu might just work for me.

Ok, I know Ubuntu uses the SUDO thing. So, I can open a terminal and type: sudo su, then I have access to everything. How can I access my windows disks through the GUI? It says I don't have permission. Can I create a root account or something, I don't really know what I should be asking...maybe someone has an idea?

Regards

i think you need to show your file system table:

"cat /etc/fstab"

and post that.

It's probably just a case of adding/altering lines for your windows partition(s).

Although don't expect linux to write to NTFS.

Windows needs to be mounted properly so that anyone (not just root) can view the partition. This is a deficiency on Ubuntu's part (as Knoppix and Mepis already have this functionality without the need to manually edit the /etc/fstab file):

Yeah, follow aysiu's link, that tutorial worked for me (except my system keeps denying me rights to write to my vfat disk).
