Hello everyone. I am quite inexperienced with Linux and the intricacies of the OS and what does what, so I ask for a bit of patience with the stupid newbie that I am.
I am running Ubuntu 7.04 on a Sony Vaio T250P.
By default I cannot set the resolution with the System > Preferences > Screen Resolution thing to the native 1280x768 so I have to run Ubuntu at 1024x768 with the black borders on each side.
I got the 915resolution program with the Synaptic Package Manager.
I entered the proper resolution in /etc/default/915resolution
Ditto for /etc/init.d/915resolution
I found no EE (error) messages in /var/log/messages/Xorg.0.conf
I even did this:
Code:
wget http://www.damia.net/vaio/xpatch/1280patch.c
gcc 1280patch.c -o 1280patch
cp 1280patch /usr/local/sbin
echo /usr/local/sbin/1280patch > /etc/rc2.d/S98xpatch
chmod +x /etc/rc2.d/S98xpatch
Now there's nothing doing...
Doing this:
Code:
915resolution 7e 1280 768
...where 7e is the 1280x768 mode according to
Here is the relevant section in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf :
Code:
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device"
Monitor "Generic Monitor"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 1
Modes "1280x768"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 4
Modes "1280x768"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "1280x768"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 15
Modes "1280x768"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1280x768"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x768"
EndSubSection
EndSection
I placed a script called bootscript into the /etc/init.d folder with the sole contents being:
Code:
915resolution 7e 1280 768
exit 0
I am not sure what that would do if anything at all.
I followed the instructions here:
http://pykeylogger.sourceforge.net/w..._at_startup.3F
So I did that chmod and update rc and everything.
Nothing happened.
I got this auto915resolution thing here:
http://roland-lopez.blogspot.com/200...ution-fix.html
I set it up and still nothing is happening. I still get 1024x768 when I reboot.
So what the hell is the problem? Are my changes canceling each other out? I should hope not. That wouldn't make much sense considering that if even one is effective they all share the same common goal: set my damn resolution in that Xorg thing or whatever it is to 1280x768 before X starts (whatever that means),
So, any brave soul out there have any advice?
