i want to make a ubuntu installled system as a client of my nis server which is fedora core 3 as OS. anyone know how to configure a ubuntu as a nis client please tell me...

Actually its my same problem. I dont know how to configure NIS in ubuntu. Well there are lots steps given in the net but when i tried to follow each steps it doesnt fullfilled me.. I wish there are exist credible steps on configuring NIS in ubuntu.. But I tried running NIS on my CentOS or Fedora and there is no problem with it.

Guys, outthere especially the ubuntu guru... I am appealing to all of you that you may help us solve this problem its not only for us but i know there are lots outthere wishing to know too. I hope you gonna hear us...

I have solved this problem by adding the following line to /etc/passwd, /etc/group and /etc/shadow :
+::::::
I have also changed the /etc/nsswitch.conf :
passwd: files nis nisplus
shadow: files nis nisplus
group: files nis nisplus

Now, all is ok.

actually, i found out that nis in ubuntu is a lot easier than any other distro...
