I just now used Wireshark to get the url to download a file that Wireshark said was an .m4v file, which is saved as an mp4. For some reason VLC would not download the file. I put the same url into Uget and it downloaded it without a problem. So, VLC fails sometimes, but Uget does not. Also whatever VLC cannot download, it cannot play as a stream. When Uget downloads it, VLC can then play the same file after it has been downloaded. If VLC fails, it does not mean your url is wrong or bad. Uget also has a place to enter your username and password if needed for the site.
Also when trying to capture the packet header of the video with Wireshark, if you have been watching the video in your browser, you may need to clear your browser's cache, and after that start the Wireshark capture, and then restart the video on the website. You can stop the Wireshark header capture (there's a button to do that) right after the video starts. It will shorten your list to look through.
