How do I turn down the brightness on a netbook?

I'd like to know which package does this.

Depends on the netbook. On my eeepc running debian. I use http://packages.debian.org/sid/utils/eeepc-acpi-scripts

Holding down the 'Ctrl' key then press the - should darken the darken and 'Ctrl' pressing the + key should brighten.

Disregard my directions, these are for resolution size.

My aspire is 'Fn' and using the left arrow or right arrow keys will control the brightness.

This is really a hardware-dependant question. What kind of netbook?

On my Dell, holding down the FN key and pressing the function key with a little sun next to a down arrow does the trick.

My netbook is a Gateway Lt3119u and right now it is being repaired, so I don't know what keys to press.

On the EEEPC I'm typing this on I hold down Fn then press either F5 for dimmer or F6 for brighter.
Aren't here symbols on your keyboard denoting this? If so then you probably need to install a package like the one rokytnji suggested to get them to work if they don't already.
Edit: I just checked and I don't have the eeepc-acpi-scripts package installed.

I adjusted the brightness on my laptop by going to System Settings ---> Brightness and Lock. There is a slider that allows you to adjust the brightness.
