Insert the card in card reader. It should work automatically.

If that doesn't work, you should run 'dmesg' immediately after inserting the card to see if the kernel is (or isn't) recognizing it. It may be that it's not properly being recognized and you'll have to create a udev rule so that it is.

I need to clarify some information before I can help you..

1) are you able to mount and read the sd card under Ubuntu?
2) are you able to access the sd card under "MS Pro". Please explain exactly this is: Windows 2000 Professional, XP Professionnal, etc

If you are unable to read the sd card under Ubunto, do these steps:

1) dmesg -c
2) re-insert your sd card
3) wait 20 seconds
4) dmesg
5) copy all the output from the last dmesg command and post it here so we can analyse it.

For those others helping here, as well as for the benefit of the OP, here's the dmesg stuff which appears to be referring to the SD card:

Code:
[ 4.023910] Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...

[ 10.030063] sd 6:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 0
Which tells me that, for example, if there were ONE partition on that card, it is probably /dev/sdb1, and if the OP is coming from Windows, the card probably has a fat filesystem on it.

The command "lsscsi" or "lsscsi -v" might give you more info (or more of the same info) about the stick too, like:

shell$ sudo lsscsi

I'm surprised that Ubuntu isn't making it easy to mount ( or easy to find ) but probably you could mount the thing from a console, with a command something like:

shell$ sudo mount /dev/sdb1 -t vfat /media/somefolder -o ro

assuming you have a empty folder called /media/somefolder where you can mount the stick on. If that works (no errors, no feedback in the console) you can probably at this point use your file browser, like Nautilus or whatever, to navigate to the folder where you mounted the stick, and see the stuff in there.

Check the manual page for the mount command, to learn about it and the options for fat filesystems. You can read the man page by typing:

shell# man mount

and you may eventually like to read the fstab man page too:

shell$ man fstab

Sasha

PS - I'm not sure if you need sudo on either of the above commands; Ubuntu's not my forte
