I'm using Ubuntu, Dapper Drake all updated.
I've gotten Wine through Synaptic, using the repository suggested on Wine's site.
But when I try to use winecfg, it simply hangs. It says it's creating the configuration directory, then... nothing! I've waited at least half an hour a couple of times.
Any suggestions?
Running the app should take less than a second I think..did you try running it as root and as regular user? Do both do the same?
You can configure Wine without that tool too, just edit the config files using a normal text editor (after which make sure wine's processes are stopped before you start it again, to make sure the changes take effect).
I had only tried it as root, but yeah, it's doing the same thing when I try it as "me". I don't know how it works yet, so I don't want to edit any files. That's kinda why I downloaded it, to see what it is.
That's the page I got it from, though.
I'm having problems with it as well as soon as i try to run a programme with wine the whole pc just freezes then its a case of power off power on and uninstall wine.
