"Error loading operating system" in WinXP dual boot
I had a dual win2k-ubuntu setup with bootmagic working nicely. I upgraded to WinXP pro, but the boot partition with bootmagic caused some problems. I reinstalled XP and tried to use the various workarounds to get the XP bootloader to recognize the linux setup, but that was difficult because I couldn't get into the linux side. I tried booting with ubuntu live which allowed me to see my linux, but do nothing with it. So I reinstalled ubuntu and chose the option to install grub on a floppy assuming this would keep it from messing with XP. Wrong!
I get the "Error loading operating system" error when I boot without the floppy. Although both work with the floppy.
I would like to get a boot working without the floppy. I've tried fixmbr, etc with XP recovery console and tried a repair install...
Still "Error loading operating system". Does someone have advice or links as to how to get to a reliable boot setup for such a system?
Thanks...
Jim
