Seems like everything that can possibly go wrong and then some are. Wine refuses to work no matter if I re-install) since I tried to run segaclassics (SEGA emulator). Tried to install build-essentials with apt-get and get different horsecrap everytime. Tell's me to insert the ubuntu cd, it works fine till about 50% then gives me IO errors and then craps out. Occasionly (at random) it tries to download but that doesnt work either(misc erorrs) and cancels. There doesnt seem to be any pattern either as to when it wants the cd or from net (rebooting doesnt really affect it). I'm thinking they might have something in common, I got a computer curse or something so any help anyone could provide would be greatly apreciated.


I'm on gutsy amd64 following comp:

Athlon X2 3600+
1 gig generic ddr2 RAM
Samsung 160 GB IDE HDD
HP combo drive
MSI K9VGM-V(puke),onboard sound and graphics (chrome 9 = *double puke*)

I/O error suggests hardware troubles. Have you looked at your system logs or run the dmesg command yet? There is bound to be some information about the exact errors.
