Display Fuzzy after Wubi installer

I ran the Wubi installer for Kubuntu 9.10 from XP on my old IBM Thinkpad T30. After install the system rebooted (complete with grub menu) and the KDE desktop launch successfully, however the task bar and menus are fuzzy, distorted and unreadable when I click them. Do I just need to change my display resolution? How do I do this without being able to see a menu?

Switch to a different tty uing ctrl+alt+Fx (F1 to F7).
Log in as the normal user and then su or sudo to the root account.

Code:

ps -aux | grep dm

THe output number will be the process to kill.

Get on another computer and look up reconfiguring X11.

Switch back to the thinkpad and type

Code:

kill <process of display manager>

From the command line, follow the directions for reconfiguring X11.
Exit to the normal account and type

Code:

startx

to test the output.
You can also use google to find if anyone has a configuration for your machine.

Please pardon my ignorance.. but when I ran the Wubi installer I only created one user profile, would this be considered 'the normal user' since it wouldn't be root?
