configure: error: Cannot find X11 headers/libraries


hi,
i want to install bmp-0.9.7 from the source with ./configure --prefix=/usr/ this is the error:
appending configuration tag "F77" to libtool
checking for beep-media-player... no
checking for X... no
configure: error: Cannot find X11 headers/libraries
pleas help me?

possibly they are not installed?
check synaptic and install the development packages for X11.

OTOH: thay may be in a non standard place. (probably not /usr either) and you will need another configure option to tell it where to find them.

Unfortunately my ubuntu box is on the other end of the house and I'm in traction...
