Cloning Ubuntu 8.04 Installation

Is it possible to clone an Ubuntu 8.04 installation onto another machine. Even using the original burned disk I haven't been able to get things set up the way I want on a second machine even though, hardware-wise, they're almost identical.

The problem in some cases I suspect, is that some files are no longer available in the repositories.

Thanks for any help that you can provide.
