Can't play DVDs after installing libdvdcss4 on Ubuntu 12.10
I've just installed Ubuntu 12.10 and have run:
sudo apt-get install libdvdread4
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
I also have Ubuntu restricted extras installed but I still can't play the DVDs I rented (both VLC and MPlayer complain the disc is encrypted). What might be causing this?

Wrong region? Check your drives DVD region setting, and the region of the discs you are trying to play.
Cracked it! Turned out that my drive had for some reason been set to region 1, I needed 2. I didn't think to check it initially because I've played region 2 DVDs on it before-perhaps something in the installation process changed it? Anyway, I' marking the thread as solved, thanks for your input everyone.
