Adept proxy configuration (Edgy )

Hello everyone,

I'm installing kubuntu 6.1 on a new Dell Xeon. I cannot get the "Adept" package manager to work behind our proxy. I did what I have done on many precedent ubuntu installation (and googled a lot) with no result :

1- added a line in /etc/bash.bashrc
export http_proxy="http://myaddress:myport"

This got the "apt-get" application to work correctly. But the "Adept" program could not connect to the repositories.

2- I added the line
Aquire::http::Proxy "http://myadress:myport";

to "/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/70debconf", but this did not solve anything. I created a new file there with a different name ("proxy") to no avail. I added the same line to "/etc/apt/apt.conf" file, same no-result.

Does anybody has a suggestion ?

Thanks a lot,
bahram.

apt-get auto proxy configuration

I also added the proxy server information to /etc/apt.conf and tried setting the environment variable: http_proxy. I am behind an auto.proxy server and it doesn't seem to matter whether I put my hardcoded userassword in the proxy server url. I have tried it with and without the userassword@ info.

When I don't specify any proxy server, apt-get and adept-manager just hang and eventually timeout. When I specify the auto.proxy server url with one of the methods above I get 404 Not Found errors such as:
W: Failed to fetch <http url here> 404 Not Found

when I copy and paste the url into a web browser, it finds the url with no problem and prompts me to save or open it with an application.
