"access concentrator doesn't respond"

i can't connect to the internet with ubuntu 6.06 lts with d-link dsl 504-t router. run pppoeconf, and i get that message "access concentrator doesn't respond", everything on windows xp runs fine. i copied the dns nameserver to the resolv.conf file, changed the eth0 "thing" from dhcp to static, and wrote the ip, mask number and stuff i got from windows xp (even though dhcp works on xp), pinged the dns ip and everything, yet i still get the same message.

does this have to do with a ipv6 problem?
