LXer: Why waste money? Free software just as wonderful

I've shelled out a lot of money over the years on software -- Windows and Mac OS upgrades, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office -- the list goes on and on. Some of it was necessary, but more often than not there are free alternatives out there that do the job just as well or better than the paid software -- someone just has to point you in the right direction. That's what I'll attempt to do here today. Behold, some of my favorite free programs and utilities that I guarantee will make your life easier:

I agree, but I also know that some of that software may be free in regards to price but isn't open source. So why is it even here?

Which rule does forbid to write about software that is not open source in this forum?

The fact that it a forum meant for Linux news and so is one of the forums that is Linux-only.

And which rule doesn't allow to write software that is not open source for Linux, like Acrobat Reader or the Flashplayer, or many others?
I think you have to adjust your view, not all on Linux is open source.

As far as the news bot postings go I think that anything that is of interest to FOSS enthusiasts is eligible.

If this forum were only for Linux and/or open source then explain the forum for Solaris.

We should endeavor to be flexible in our thinking.
