The article, and the video presentation, by Frank Karlitshek, was informational; but was also controversial.

I did take note of one thought which I thought was noteworthy.

Quote:
Who knows. If Karlitschek's ideas are put into practice, maybe there will be a true "Year of the Linux desktop." After all, it's clear that not everyone is happy about having to move from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and Microsoft itself is intending on replacing its traditional Windows desktop with Windows as a Service. The time for a mass-market Linux desktop may yet come.
I think it would be beneficial if there was some framework, within the FOSS developer community, that could enable the Linux OS's become a major mass-market desktop within the average user would be beneficial to all concerned and would break the monopoly the Microsoft has garnered throughout the years.

Linux is too diversified to ever become just one O/S like Mac or Windows, this is a problem to some, but who is going to dictate what a Linux O/S should be?

I don't want a system that has more programs than I need, that is why I use a lightweight Window Manager system as against a full on desktop like KDE.

BSD has more chance of becoming a desktop O/S than Linux does.
