That is to bad, I knew people who worked on the alpha chip and they raved about it, of course they were biased
I never really heard anything bad about it. I know little about Itanium.
And even NetBSD has alpha and Itanium in Tier II, which means the focus is less than Tier I systems.

But at least there is an escape route people with this hardware if they feel it is needed. But for VMS, seems something else will need to be done.
