This release brings numerous changes as compared to last version. With this release, Ubuntu has completely switched over to Gnome 3 stack. Many applications and application indicators have been ported to GTK3. Ubuntu 11.10 is based on 3.0.4 stable upstream Linux Kernel and comes with Gcc 4.6 as the default compiler.
