Dear Glenn,
You recently signed a letter to abolish software patents in Australia.
We've just sent the letter to Senator Kim Carr along with 1000
signatures. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who supported the
letter!
As promised, we won't email you again. If you'd like to continue
receiving updates (including the government's response to the letter),

Support for the letter has been amazing. Over 90% of the 1000
signatories work or study in the software industry. This included more
than 40 CEOs, CIOs, CTOs, MDs, Directors and Presidents of Australian
software companies.
Government agencies are currently in "caretaker" mode, so they can't
respond to our letter until after the election. Once they do, we'll
try to arrange a meeting with the relevant minister's office.
Abolishing software patents won't be an easy win. As you may know, we
missed an important opportunity to make submissions to the patents
review in 2008. Also, a number of large corporations enjoy the
benefits of the imbalance in the patent system. They will be actively
working to retain this imbalance.
We're confident though, that with your continued support we will see
software patents abolished. Although the change may take a few years,
you've helped us to make a great start.
Thanks go to Alex Fraser and Ciarán O'Riordan who helped make this
letter possible.
Regards,
Ben
Only 1000 ppl? C'mon!
You don't have to be here to express your opinion!
