LXer: One Year Later: Adobe Abandons 64-bit Linux Again
Published at LXer:
...once again there are known security vulnerabilities in the now eight month old beta and no patches are available. In addition, the community forum page for discussing Flash Player "Square" has been deleted from the Adobe Labs website. If Adobe is continuing development on a 64-bit version of Flash Player they are not sharing any information with the public at this time. For the time being Adobe has effectively abandoned 64-bit Linux.
I got my first laptop running a 64 bit Linux this year.
I know it's not great that it does not have an up to date flash plugin.
I'm just wondering what percentage of laptops run a 64 bit linux these days. I'd bet less than 1%.
So I'm not ready to blame Adobe just yet.
Besides, my fedora 15 64 bit, has issues with yum dependencies. I installed some packages, and then when I run the command, it complains that a 64 bit library is missing. Makes me think Linux distros are not fully ready for 64 bit either.
It makes me think Fedora is a worthless distro, like it always has been.
I disagree. Since Fedora 13, it has been improving with each release.
On Fedora 15, I installed gnash along with the webplugin (I run 64bit version). Youtube videos (and flash on other websites) works just fine. No issues/crashes till date.

Reason: mentioned that my Fedora is 64bit.
The forum is still there, but there are still lots of security risks they have not addressed in a very long time. I'll be uninstalling it as soon as I use it one last time on a flash-only site that I need. So, in about 1 hour I 'll remove it permanently.
And I'll be updating the LQWiki Slackware FAQ about how to run 32-bit browsers (including Chrome) on a multilib setup. Something tells me that running a 32-bit browser on a 64-bit installation just to run the 32-bit Flash plugin is about to become an option again.
